Getting Back on Track: Four Guiding Questions

Getting back on track in January can be an uphill battle. It is easy to overlook our health if we get caught up in the busyness of daily life.  Take some time in the stillness of winter to reflect about where you are at and where you want to be. Use the questions below to hit the reset button and get back into a healthy frame of mind.

 1) Are you open to change?

Many of us would answer ‘yes’ without skipping a beat, but let’s be honest with ourselves and really ponder this one…Are there limiting beliefs holding you back? Perhaps the fear of change is something you are struggling with. The awareness and acceptance of fear may be enough to open you to the possibility of change.

2) Are you willing to make the time and commitment to improving your health?

In North America, we live in a fast-paced society where hard work is highly regarded and productivity is rewarded. Dedicating some time daily to health practices, takes us in a positive direction towards optimizing well-being. When we are in good physical and mental shape, we can increase productivity and feel good doing so.

 3) What opportunities and obstacles surround wellness for you?

This can be a hard question and may require some journaling. By considering our opportunities (things that enable health), we can effectively use our resources and support healthy change. It is equally important to consider obstacles (things that detract from health) so we can make a plan to overcome them.

 4) What would have to be different or better about your health in 3 years from now for you to be happy with your progress?

In other words, what are your health goals? Thinking more long-term allows you to creatively project where you want to be. Healthy, sustainable change takes time, so be kind to yourself. With a positive mindset focused on health and well-being, you can work towards achieving your health goals.

I hope to help shed some light and bring awareness to your capacity for healthy change in this new year. Winter offers some beautiful moments of quietude. Instead of moving onto the next task, take advantage of the chance to reflect with these 4 questions in mind.

Best wishes for a healthy year,

Dr. Tara Guzzo, N.D., R.Ac.
